Example scene
The image below shows the sample Arches scene displayed in GeoRadiosity. There are two instances which we want to include in the radiosity computation: the interior of the building (yellow) which is the main play area, and the distant background mountains (green). We want to vary the indirect lighting resolution between these two areas. This is a small scene, so we explicitly group the instances into two radiosity systems; interior (high resolution) and mountains (low resolution). We choose the lighting resolution carefully to minimize the cost of the radiosity computation, while maintaining good quality indirect lighting.
There is a third area in the scene, the outer shell mesh, which is never rendered. This instance is excluded from the radiosity computation and is not grouped into a system.
